How We Honor Our Heroes

by klparry

Dear Friends,

Today in the USA, we celebrate Memorial Day: a time to remember all those who have given of themselves freely or by conscript when the leaders of our nation called. It is a day we honor those lives lost, those minds destroyed by conflict, those souls tortured by what the heart could not reconcile for war is a terrible thing. Many have gone before the cannon, left limbs on the battlefield and returned forever changed by the experience. So to have their Mothers wept and their Fathers suffered in brooding silence long after grave markers have fallen to rot.

Yes, I say it again, War is a terrible thing – the sacrifices it requires great. That we never forget this, that we never again seek conflict, that when it does arrive the cause is just and beyond question in righteous merit; this is how we honor our heroes.
