I’m a person of many interest and one of them is spy stuff – you know, like Maxwell Smart’s shoe phone and John Steed of The Avengers, bullet shooting umbrella along with every 007 gadget Q could dream up. So it should come as no surprise that when the Ronald Reagan Library/Museum played host to a Spy Exhibit I wanted to check it out.
Holy Moly, Batman!
I was impressed with all the OSS (WWII Office of Strategic Services) cameras disguised as coat buttons, matchboxes, lipstick and sunglasses. Super cool! There are weapons of all sorts, disguised in various manners – a stealth canoe and even a portable motorcycle made for quick assembly and an even quicker escape. They even have on display original documents from the real Argo ruse – an elaborately constructed plan by CIA operative Tony Mendez, to extract six diplomats from Iran after the U.S. Embassy was taken over by Iranian militants.
The exhibit continues thru March 9, 2014. Allow yourself several hours and include a stroll through Air Force One which is located at the opposite end of the museum.
Until tomorrow, Write On!
