With A Little Help From My Friends

by klparry

So as you know, after the pre-release (that’s what I’m calling it) of my debut novel, The Pirate’s Daughter And A King’s Ransom, I came to the conclusion that I needed to change the book’s cover.( I was told by my younger readers that it looked too much like a school book…yuck!)  Well, that whole process led to other changes and my ultimate decision to remove  all the beautiful public domain illustrations that I was so fond of and that took me weeks to locate. Now I had to replace them with something else because I didn’t want to lose the feel the illustrations gave the book.

Poor Christian, I hounded him to death with my requests to tweak images I had taken with my camera and the fact that he still answers my emails is a miracle and a testament to his friendship.

Now, seven months later I have a piece of work that I can be proud of. And I really could not have done it without the help of my friends. I should have named this post “With A Lot Of Help From My Friends”.

Murex Shell end chapter Bullet. Just one of the images Christian altered for me to look more like an illustration.

I have definitely learned some things along this journey, all of which will make putting together the sequel to the ..”A King’s Ransom” that much easier. Hopefully, I haven’t taxed my friends’ talents and patience beyond their desire to lend their continued aid.

Now comes the really hard part and that is the promoting, building a fan base and, in general, just getting the book in front of the public eye. Wish me Luck!
